JJ BACHANT BROWN - AIR (Area Search)

JJ has been doing Search and Rescue since 2004.  During this time, she has been a member of:  Escambia Search and Rescue (ESAR), Pensacola, FL (2004-2015); KlaasKids – Regional Search Operations Center (RSOC), Pensacola, FL (2016-2021); and Southern Star Search & Rescue (SoS-SAR), Foley, AL (2021-Current).  Positions throughout the years include, but are not limited to: Canine Handler, SAR Field Technician, Incident Commander, K9 Commander, Assistant Director, Volunteer Coordinator, Operations Chief, K9 Evaluator and Instructor, Secretary, and Founding Member of SoS-SAR.  

 

She has her NASAR SarTech II certification as well as being a NASAR Canine SarTech III – Area Search Evaluator.  She has been an instructor for Area Search in the past for NNCDS, CSAR, and Old Dominion.  Her first SAR dog, Ivan – a black lab named after Hurricane Ivan – passed away in 2016 after a long and successful career.  She lost her next K9 partner, Onyx – another black lab – in the Spring of 2022.  He had been certified in Area Search by NASAR, NOCSAR, and NNCDS.  Her new K9 partner is Xray born in July of 2022 and is currently in training for Area Search.  Her other dog, Luna – an American Bulldog mix – was retired in 2015 after having both her knees replaced.  Luna was training in HRD but is now an ambassador for the unit during public events.  JJ owns and operates her dog training business where she is a certified professional Dog Trainer and Pet Care Technician.  She is also a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, an instructor for DogGone Safe, and a professional member of The Pet Professional Guild (PPG).
